BBHS is now proud to announce, that a second BBHS Arrival System is now fully installed and operational at BLL Billund Airport, after being selected by Billund Airport. The second BBHS Arrival Installation brings the BBHS overall Arrival Baggage capacity up to approx. +50% of the total arriving baggage volume, and will soon be followed by a third system, which we will bring further news about during October. The goal for BLL Billund is to reach approx. +75% BBHS Arriving Baggage capacity at the turn of the year 2019/2020.

BLL Billund Airport have completed installation points for third BBHS Arrival Unit at their brand new multihouse construction, which will bring BLL Arrival Baggage capacity up to +75% at the turn of the year 2019/2020. BBHS made the final laser based measurements for the installation point, which will be delivered to BLL at the end of week 49. For further info regarding the Billund Airport Multi House, please refer to Billund Airport’s page . We will follow up with further information on the installation progress.

BBHS has now delivered and installed the third BBHS Arrival Unit at Billund Airports brand new multi-house construction site. In the multi-house, there is an additional luggage arrival belt installed, and the external BBHS ACU Arrival Unit is currently being integrated and finely tuned with the Beumer BHS system. We will keep you informed with further information on the installation completion.

The Bulk Baggage Handling System was being featured as a productivity innovation, trialed in Changi Airport Terminal 4,and presented at the Singapore Airshow 2020. SmartSort manages the high-level controls, consisting of: Sort Allocation Controller (SAC) – The central server of the system for all real-time communication requirements, including an interface for the receipt of BSM and Flight Data, and communication with the PLCs to direct sortation into the Capacity Boosters and Departure Control Units, as well as to receive baggage event messages. Data Historian System (DHS) – A central server within the system, for all long-term storage. It is responsible for collecting and storing data from the PLCs and the SAC. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) – Provided via SmartVision on both a mobile HMI and an operator workstation. SmartControl manages the lower-level conveyor controls, BBHS equipment and PLCs required for the system. What holds all of this together is SmartSuite Enterprise, a consolidated, real-time view of both baggage and passenger operations. The SmartSuite Web Client provides the interface to the Management Information System (MIS). The data management and reporting facilities required to operate and maintain the BBHS system is conducted via the system. The SmartSuite Web Client also includes Global Search, which allows users to search for flights, passengers, baggage, or any combination of those items from one screen. Advanced users can also view bag transactions and messages (i.e. BSM, BPM, etc.) for each tag number. Martin Sattrup Christensen, CEO of BBHS A/S, participated as speaker for this years Brock Solutions’ Airport Automation Summit 2016, Kitchener, ON, Canada, on the topic “Emerging Industry Technologies”. The role of technology in airport and airline operations has increased dramatically in the past decade. Technological solutions have resulted in a marked improvement in the efficiency of baggage processing, as well as increased security, operational monitoring, and a better overall passenger experience. Martin participated in a “rapid-fire” session where a few of the exciting innovations that have recently emerged in the aviation industry were highlighted, including why these innovations are important, what you need to know about them, the associated benefits and risks, and showcase examples of each technology. Martin was asked to elaborate on how BBHS through innovative thinking and technological development can improve baggage handling efficiency, work environment, and overall system performance, with the purpose of showing how it can bring value to all airport/airline stakeholders.

BBHS has signed a contract to construct a complete BBHS departure and arrival system for Vojens Airport, Denmark. The setup will consist of a make-up station, an arrival station and carts, able to service the complete volume of current and future traffic at Vojens Airport. The departure setup consists of a complete make-up station, able to rapidly service and sort up to 1200 pieces of baggage per hour. The system is fully automated and can act on baggage system messages (BSM) to obtain the desired cart make up and priority structure. The process consists of a range of intertwined BBHS components, which all work in sync to deliver the highest level of performance. The components have been designed to batch baggage contained in one BBHS component to fit and match with all other BBHS components. Departure wise, the baggage starts its journey at the check-in desk and x-ray scanner, and thereafter enters the BBHS make-up station. At the BBHS make-up station, the baggage enters the BBHS bag-orienter (1) where the bag automatically is aligned for the most optimal positioning, based on shape and size. Individually, the BBHS bag-orienter is able to handle >1200 bags per hour and can be used in a wide variety of setups with geometrically constrained processes. After the BBHS bag-orienter process the bags reach the BBHS mini-loader (2). The bags are then sorted based on their BSM’s and arranged to the most appropriate shelf in the BBHS make-up unit. The BBHS mini-loader is able to handle up to 1200 pieces of baggage per hour and is fully flexible for implementation and operation. At the BBHS sortation unit (3), baggage is stored until it is consolidated with four other pieces with the same definitions – if so, the five bags are batched, transferred and transported by the BBHS batch mover (4) to the BBHS departure-consolidation units (5). At the BBHS Departure Consolidation Unit, batches will then wait for enough batches to fill an entire BBHS cart. The BBHS carts (6) are always coupled in pairs, with a total capacity of 60 bags, 30 bags per BBHS cart, equal to 12 batches. When the batches are ready, the apron operator is notified through the BBHS Operator Interface and goes to pick up the bags.
